You can cover the hinges with painters tape and carefully try to go around them. It will be easier if you remove the doors and then paint them on a flat surface.
Hi Carol,
While it's recommended that your remove your doors, you can paint it just like you would if you took the doors off except, instead of doing that, you'd tape all of the hardware so that you could paint around them. The process is pretty much the same. Clean the cabinets, sand a little to rough up the surface to help the paint stick. Use a tack cloth to clean off every speck of dust. Paint on a coat of primer to prevent anything from coming through your final paint, then paint everything with a coat or two of kitchen cabinet paint. Most companies have paint specifically formatted for cabinets. Be careful around all of the hardware so the brush markings look good, let it all dry and you're done. If you need more instructions, let us know. :) Wishing you the best.
So much easier with the doors taken off and not have the hinges or the doors in the way.
You could tape the hinges with painters tape. But it’s much easier to paint with the doors off. I took mine off when I painted, and they are super easy to put back on. You can see how I painted my cabinets here: http://momhomeguide.com/my-painted-kitchen-cabinets-a-year-later/
