How do you make a treasure chest?
I'm looking to make inexpensive, easy chests using cardboard and balsa wood with leather-like straps and brass studs. Something that's about 14" wide, 8" deep, and 9" high (with a curved top). I have absolutely no experience with woodworking, nor have any of the tools other than standard stuff: screwdrivers, hammers, sandpaper, that kind of thing. Anyone ever do something like this?

Hi. If your looking for really inexpensive you can use a large shoe box. I have done many themes (and now I have to do a pirate chest, lol). You can reinforce it inside with the balsa wood, just glue.
Hobby lobby is my one stop shopping center, lol. I think every thing you'd need is there, i know there's a good selection of leather, rivets, small handles I think there some in the shape if lions, grafic paper for the outside like old maps, ships, mod podge it's a great glue. All kinds of embellishments, maybe line the bottom with felt. So much to choose from and the more you do the more creative you'll be, craft shows are so much fun and profitable to buy more stuff, lol.
Very nice staff, have your list they'll show you where to find everything. Of course there's other stores, Micheals, joann, etsy, Ebay etc. I love this sort of craft, so versatile. Have fun🙂
Thank you so much for your great suggestions, and for replying so quickly! Looks like I'll be heading out to Hobby Lobby tomorrow - thanks again!
