How do I fix my shower inexpensively and easily?
I tried to regrout the tiles in my shower stall but they were falling off so I took them all off. The tiles were attached to standard wall board and the board was water damaged so I removed all of that. Now I'm down to studs, which at least are in good condition. I thought it would be easy to just get a surround system that attaches directly to the studs. NOPE! My shower base is 34 X 34 and in good shape. I don't have room in the alcove to make the shower bigger. I cannot find shower panels that fit the 34 X 34 inch base!! Does anyone have ideas of what I can do? I would strongly prefer surround walls versus tile. Money is a great concern as well as my "undeveloped" DIY skills. (I'm good at deconstructing though!)

I would but up cement backerboard and tile but use larger tiles that will make the project easier.
Surrounds are not meant to be attached directly to studs. Use concrete board to replace the drywall you removed (and good that you did that!). Tape and mud them like regular drywall. Then you should be able to find a shower surround that will fit - though you might have to look online rather than in a local store. Ask at the bath design center at one of the builder supply stores (Home Depot, Lowes, where ever). They should be able to recommend a product that will work well. Some sort of thin but semi-rigid plastic that you can adhere to the cement board using construction adhesive.
You can buy panels at a home store, which you cut to size, but you would need to find out what kind of end strips you need and also sealer. You need to put up sheet rock first to protect against moisture. Do not skip that! You probably will need to make cuts around water fixtures. Look up instructions in do-it-yourself books .
Here are some waterproof panels.

Cement backer boards and larger tiles otherwise you're going to have to go with a custom shower and that could cost more. I would recommend talking to Lowe's or Home Depot and get a free estimate to see what they would recommend.
