You would need to strengthen the wicker by either weaving in some more of the cane (available from Craft Stores + book s on the subject) or weave in some metal such as coat hanger wire or any you may find you are able to work with If the main carcase is weak, then I would find a weaver that might be able to help you. The Craft shop may know of someone?

How a bout a thick wire weaved in between
You could make the settee a lot my stable by using clear fishing line. Wrap the pieces together several times at various angles and it would not be noticeable out all. It is very strong and should help strengthen the settee.
