Unfortunately, some of the newer cars have a "soy based"insulation on the wiring and that is food for rodents! If your car is one of these, you may want to go to the dealership for a rebate for the repairs.
Also, there are "rodent repellents"... you may want to try these!

try a fabric softner sheet under the front seat and driver's seat. Had this problem and this was the answer from car mechanic. Seems to have worked. change every few weeks, seems the critters do not like the smell.
Home Depot has rope lights, different lengths, that can surround your vehicle, all night or 24-7, mice and rats won't cross over them! Have had them for 2 years with no signs of anything in the vehicles! Just don't step on or drive over them, as that section could go dark!
