  • Hose it out well. Wash with Dawn dish soap and rinse with some white vinegar. Easy!

Try using a power washer. Or hose it out and then scrub with a stiff brush and some warm soapy water, rinse well.

Scoop out as much dirt as you can with a shovel, and you'll be able to wash it with the hose and then scrub with a brush.

If you're talking about stubborn dirt stuck in fine cracks or crevasses, try some Dawn dishwashing liquid diluted with water and a toothbrush. You may never be able to get 100% of the dirt removed, but with all of it except tiny bits stuck here and there in those cracks it won't affect the water quality. Suggest changing out the water daily to prevent mosquitoes from breeding and once a week or so give the bath a scrub with a disinfectant dish soap in water or a strong vinegar/water mix (to kill moss or mold spores) and then rinse well with water before refilling. I have a 20 plus year old concrete birdbath and the smooth finish inside the "bath" part has long since worn away so that the aggregate is exposed. Dirt and moss/mold accumulate in the crevasses. I clean as suggested with a brush and rinse out well with a hose before refilling. The birds love that bird bath (it's shallow and has a flat bottom with a raised center "perch" area so the birds can easily judge the depth of the water).
