How do I build a low maintenance fire pit that is easy to care for?
I have a small meditation garden with a small well and a large oak tree. I had a small Mexican Chiminea, but a branch fell on it an broke it. I want a fire pit so I can have open fires as well. I had a metal pit before, but it required me to empty and store it after each use, and even then it rusted and soon burnt through.
I am looking for something 36-48" (100-120 cm) that will be a permanent installation, that is easy to maintain. The ease of maintenance is critical, I am a disabled veteran with back, hip and knee issues, so I need the maintenance to be not much more than occasionally scoop out the dead ashes.

We dug a hole the size we wanted, ours is deep because we also burn dead branches that fall out of our huge trees. We lined the whole thing with cement, rounded the bottom and put a hole in the center for water drainage that reached the soil. It has been in the ground for four years and still is in perfect shape. We mounted one of those grill grates that you can swing out or remove on one of the sides. This is easy for us to maintain since all we have to do is remove ashes.
