How can I do something with this light?

We removed the closet sliding doors and put in this bed in the guest room. Short of hiring an electrician, what can I do with this light? I tried an upside down lamp shade, but it looked silly.

I'd find a light fixture you like and replace the light. It's really not difficult to do yourself. Over the years I've done this, as well as installing ceiling fans where there was existing wiring...all without benefit of the internet! So research online for the info you need.

    Savannah,

I am assuming you want to keep the light. You can easily replace the fixture you have with a slim LED light fixture that does not require a big bulb and would mount to the surface of the ceiling. You can also use the existing wiring, enlarge the hole the wiring comes through now and install a recessed light fixture, which would require you to put in a switch somewhere. They also make wireless switch kits that eliminate the need for additional wiring. You can find them on Amazon.

You can install a ceiling fan in its place.

I just went to Amazon and did a search for "light fixtures ceiling flush mount" and found lots of option under $50 that you could easily replace on your own without help of an electrician. I'm assuming you want something a person won't bump their head but still need the light itself for the room.
