This is what we use for carpenter bees. They are very sensitive to smell. You can spray WD-40, but that can get very expensive. We use termite control Hi-Yield 38Plus, mixed to termite ratio, in a garden sprayer. Spray the area well and they will stop drilling in your wood. We do it twice a year and has been very effective for us.
Hi Carol. I did a bit of reading so that I could address your problem. This is what I learned: Carpenter bees, like other insects, have a natural aversion to citrus oil. So, you can cut up rinds of several different citrus fruits (orange, lemon, lime, or grapefruit) and boil them in a shallow pot filled with water. Boil it 15 or 20 mins. Then fill a spray bottle with this citrus-extract water and spray the bee burrows with it. This citrus extract won't kill the bees but it will make them want to leave. Good luck Carol.
