Southern Traditions: Why Did My Grandmas Sweep Their Yards?
My question as I watched these grandparents was always, "Why are you sweeping your yards, and why is there no grass around your house?" We have grass around ours.
Try some clay cat litter it absorbs stains, then after leaving it for a day or so. Sweep it up with with vinegar orcbleach water depending on stain it should help.
If it has "gotten dark" it has been neglected, not used, or not cleaned regularly. Start with a garden hose, dawn dish soap, a gallon or two of white vinegar and a stiff bristle push broom. Hose the patio down. Work in sections an squirt some Dawn. Then brush brush brush. Rinse with hose. If it needs more, toss out the vinegar and more dish soap. Brush again and let it sit for 15 minutes or so, then hose off. Or bite the bullet and rent a power washer from a local tool rental company. I do my patio and concrete spaces several times throughout the year as well as hosing off when needed.
Check out "wet & forget outdoor". You can always scrub with cleaning vinegar. I pressure washed my daughter's concrete driveway and it looked like new using nothing but a bit of vinegar and blue Dawn\ for "soap" but krud kutter would be a good additive as well.
Hi Ev. The best way is to pressure wash it. It is like night and day! Does take work though but worth it!
thanks.
