I cannot use bleach or any harsh chemicals in my home so what I do is, make a special load with the articles that I want whitened and add a whole bottle of hydrogen peroxide with regular detergent to the wash load.HP also kills germs.agitate for a minute, then shut the machine off and let it soak for at least an hour. Then run through normal load cycle.
If you have an article that has white and a color it will not bother the color but it will whiten the white.
Also found that dawn dish soap gets out almost any Stain (I have to use the green apple scented) the blue scent is too strong.)
Just wet the article and rub a little Dawn dish soap and rub it in good. Then throw in the regular wash. I have not had a stain that does not come out with this but that's not to say that there is some.
Fabric content makes a difference. Cotton and linen is easier to correct. Synthetics need a bit more help. Stop using fabric softener and use vinegar instead and felted wool dryer balls.

Also stop using bleach, it "grays" or "yellows" fabrics over time and weakens the fabric fibers. Hydrogen peroxide or an oxyclean product are a better choice.
Oxiclean or plain old white vinegar added into your washer should do the trick. Good Luck :)
