How do I make large, sturdy mushroom yard statues?
I have 2 ginormous tree stumps. I would like make mushrooms/toad stools to anchor to the stumps. I can use overturned bowls for the caps but what do I use for the natural looking stems? Whatever I make, it needs to anchor to the stumps (due to theft. Someone has part of my fairy village grrrr). Thank you.

Hi Mary. I believe you could make the mushroom stems with nylons and concrete. Mix up a small amount of concrete according to the instructions on the bag. Pour the concrete into a nylon stocking. Then tie string at the top of the stocking and hang it from something (I used the bars inside my outdoor umbrella.) The stocking will make a shape that is plump on the bottom and elongated at the top. Let your stocking hang until the concrete is dry. As far as securing your mushrooms to your stumps, I would use something like Gorilla Glue.
I brought some green garden stakes at Walmart that would be good to use as the steams. They are tall and you can cut to the size you need,& they can be painted if needed to be, just spray with a clear coat of sealer that can be purchased at Walmart to. Hope this is helpful. Good Luck. Would love to see what you did when you are done. 😉
