How do I upcycle/repair a pleather couch?

Our couch is peeling and the pleather looks like it has eczema. Is there any way to repair it easily? Or is a re-cover my only option?

  • In my experience, once the bonded leather has started peeling, it has reached the point to where it's not repairable. You can have the couch reupholstered, use a slip cover, or peel off the remaining leather and paint the fabric underneath with chalk paint. I chose to sew slipcovers for a couple of "leather" armless chairs using drop cloths.

    This might help:

    1. Sand the flaking faux leather off with 180 grit sandpaper. ...
    2. Color in any discolored cracks with a marker that matches the shoes. ...
    3. Use a clean rag to rub shoe polish on the surface of the shoes. ...
    4. Paint shoe goo over the shoe with a 1⁄2 inch (1.3 cm) paintbrush. ...
    5. Let the shoe goo dry for 24 hours.
