Replace with plastic soffits.
Are the soffits getting old, re.: may require replacing? If so obtain quotes for vinyl replacements. Not sure how expensive it may be.
Hi Margerita,
I agree with Diane. If you don't want woodpeckers or carpenter ants to destroy the soffit wood, don't reinstall wood. Vinyl would last better against woodeating insects & birds. Here's a tutorial for installation, however it also contains instruction for replacing the fascia as well. Wishing you the best.

I don't know about woodpeckers, but I have read that carpenter bees are only attracted to untreated wood; so put a sealer or stain/paint on your soffits or cover with vinyl.
