You might want to use Mod Podge Hard Coat in the purple bottle. It is thin, but it isn't tacky to the touch in humidity.

There are several Hometalk members who have created coasters using mod podge. Here's the link that has a lot. There are also a few other ideas. Look them over and decide which one will work for you.
