Fit a large 3/4” plywood board on top of tub, You could first put a layer of foam on the board and use staples to upholster it. Set on top of tub. Surround the board on the three sides with throw pillows to match. Now you have a beautiful bench! Also if you don’t like seeing the base of the tub front—then use extra material and make a skirt to complete the look!

We hanged up a dowel rod and sheet, put a piece of plywood over the tub, and made a storage area/closet for coats/sweaters out of ours as we never used it, we use only the shower on the other side of the room. It looks great and took a great storage problem off our hands. Now the clear tubs on the plywood hold the off season clothes too

Hi Marilyn: You can make a top like S. Davis suggests, but use a piano hinge, it's a really long hinge and you can get them at home improvement stores, or some other types of hinges, like lid support hinges. That way, you can just lift the lid up instead of having to remove it. Of course, you will have to remove the faucet handles:) So, be sure the water is off! You can also paint the front of the tub if you don't like the looks of it, or put contact paper on it. When, if you decide to upholster the top, be sure to do the bottom of the lid too, so that it looks great when you open it. And, you can use the shower nozzle to put in a push type battery operated light:) Good luck, sounds like a nifty project.
