Hello Marcia, I have always just mixed dawn with water in a spray bottle and coated the top and bottom of the plant. I let it sit for about an hour and then rinse it off. You can lay a towel over the soil so that it will catch it.
Mix 5 tablespoons of dish soap with 4 cups of water in a bottle and spray plants with the solution.
