First of all, find the studs and mount to those IF YOU CAN. I know from experience that the studs are not always where I want to hang something. If that isn't possible (usually there's at least one stud involved), try the French cleat hangers (you can find them at home improvement stores by the picture hangers). One piece goes on the wall and the other piece on the item to be hung. Depending on the size, I've seen some that hold up to 200 lbs. I've used them to hang old windows and a very heavy entryway coat rack/shelf. I love them!

Stud finder is an inexpensive way to insure you drive into the right place.
Using a a stud finder to install your shelf bracketing could be critical for successful placement and support.
Hi, Julie!
A French cleat hanger is probably the best bet... They are easy to hang and very strong! I hope this helps!
