If you expect it to have storage, like shelves and doors, this is better done with porch posts that have square or flat sections.
As that’s essentially a bookshelf project.
If you’re going to load up the shelves with lots of dishes, silver chest and more, then the shelves must not span more than 42”, preferably 36” or they will sag.
The back will also need a solid panel, to keep it from wracking.
I would use 3/4” plywood in either a veneer finish (stained) or in an A/C grade. Particle board & MDF will fail. (See my post about my buffet’s failure).
