How do I paint mason jars?

I am doing all the decorations for my brothers wedding and I am trying to paint mason jars. I painted a small one with old craft paint I had just laying around. Used rubbing alcohol first and it turned out great. I had to get new paint and I bought new larger jars. Now the paint is very streaky and anytime I try to do another coat the first coat peels,clumps up into strings. I even tried letting them dry for a full 2 days before trying again. I am using Apple Barrel matte acrylic. (It was very cheap) could i just need to use better quality paint or a semi gloss possibly?

Use chalk paint and just wash them and dry them to get greasy fingerprints off. No reason to use alcohol....that may be your problem.

Your poor result is probably the paint. Apple Barrel is cheap but is the worst acrylic craft paint I've ever used---no coverage because of very little pigment in the paint. Wash the jars and wipe down with alcohol to remove any excess grease or oils. Let dry, then use Delta Ceramcoat or DecoArt's Americana acrylic craft paint. Use a foam brush for best results.

I recently painted 36 glass mason jars with Folk art multipurpose.

This paint is rated for glass needs to be baked on.

Plaid has a whole page on glass paint products I would look there or call their support line. They are very educational and helpful

In my case I painted a white background first then the blue flower on top. It’s have a nice clean background ( rear view) as well as support the flower true color and prevent streaky look. I painted My in waves painting one single color at a time which allowed the paint to dry and cure -this system work very well for me
