Hi Opal, this is Peggy. Here are some instructions on stenciling a textured wall. Good luck with your project. If you choose to use a dense foam roller to paint the stencil, make sure to remove excess paint on a paper towel and apply the paint very lightly. Use spray adhesive (we recommend Elmer's repositionable spray adhesive) to help the stencil stay secure to the wall, reducing seepage.Nov 16, 2012
Stenciling a Textured Wall with Painting Stencils

Just don't expect precise lines, but can be done. Has a new aged Tuscan look.
Opal, this is less easy than you think. Often you are far Better off by Equity Standards to secure that your Stenciling or other Art, is not a Permanent Fixture on a Wall but is a removable decor. You do this by painting your stencils on a Cardboard or 1 ply wood to then place that in a Frame.
Same applies to Paint by Numbers Murals and Stained Glass which easily Mounts in a Frame.
I actually prefer decals on the wall. They cling to every little bump. I found some cute ones at Amazon.com Just ordered a one for my laundry room that reads "Laundry room drop your pants here". They have ones for nearly everything you can think of. Also it is nice to be able to read customer reviews of the product before buying it. I have changed my mind several times after reading the customer reviews and glad that I did.
Yes I agree with Kelli. Lines won't be perfect but, it should still look good when finished! :)
