Can you get to the attic? Vinegar is my suggestion.

I'm assuming it's not so much dead rat smell, but leftover rat/mouse smell after getting rid of the *#&! Unfortunately the only way to get rid of the smell is to remove ALL the pee and poop soaked insulation in your attic and replace it with all new insulation. If any of the plywood show signs of being urine soaked, I'd probably toss some baking soda on top before rolling out new insulation. Now ask me how I know this... the insulation in my stove became riddled and soaked with mouse pee and poop filled tunnels one cold winter after an invasion >:(
Personally I'd contract this job out; but if you do do it yourself, wear disposable "painter's suits" and booties, masks, and disposable gloves (goggles aren't a bad idea either) as rats & mice and their droppings carry disease. And while you have the insulation removed, check all your wiring (and pipes!) for chewed wires and block all entrances into the attic. Good luck!
