It sounds as if the paint has oxidized. The door can be repainted or it's possible to use car wax to restore the paint. In my opinion, I would just prime and paint... I hope this helps!

Clean with soapy water (blue Dawn is my preference), then white vinegar if it has heat stains, and then clean with microfiber cloth to buff.
