I've painted over brick fireplaces before, but this stone is rough. The top of the hearth looks like smooth marble, but the bottom is the same rough stone.
Give the walls a light sanding and a good cleaning. Prime them first or use a good 2-in-1 paint and primer. Applying more than one coat is always a good idea too.
Hi Brenda. Make sure it is clean first. Then I would fill any holes with a wood filler and lightly sand after it has dried so it blends in. I have found that using a oil base primer works very well with paneling. Apply that and after it has dried you are ready to paint.
Yes and I would use TSP solution to help with making the surface “bite”.
Clean with TSP, prime with Kilz Original, then paint.
