  Ok, next. When was the last time all the doors and windows were opened to air the house out?
  
  When was the last time the walls were washed (including ceilings) and carpets and upholstered furniture steam cleaned?

Found this a few months ago, and it works very well. Find some small mason jars, fill half way with baking soda. Add about 10 drops of your favorite essential oil and shake well to mix. cover with fabric or the original lid with small holes in it. I decorated the jars with ribbon an small flowers, then placed one in each room. If you don't notice it working after awhile, just shake or add a few more drops of oil.

Depends on what is causing the smell. A dehumidifier may help.
