Hi Sally. You could use a tension rod. Be sure to look at packaging to see how many pounds it will hold.

There should be studs in the corners of the closet walls. You could attach a piece of 1x4 wood from side to side securing it to the studs and then attach a rod to that piece of wood. You would need to do it on both sides of the closet so the rod can go across the closet. I hope you understand what I mean.
Gk has the right idea. Or you can use screw in drywall anchors.
