What is the rug made from? Polyolefin, polyester, nylon or polypropylene?

  Polyolefin. The stain comes from a black shelving unit legs. The room flooded and left the stain under it. Thanks for the reply.

  Polyolefin is a bear for oil-based stains, but this sounds water-based, yay. It’s probably a bit of mold, a bit of rust and the flood debris.
  Because “reds” are not stable colors,
  I would make a 1:1:5 paste of oxygenated bleach, not chlorine bleach, (OxyClean),
  clear dish soap and water. Scrub it into the fibers. Rinse with a ton of water, brush with a clean brush, after 3 minutes.
  Look at it and see what it did, after it dries.
  Re-apply the paste & scrub only to that area, if it is still black. Dry again.
  If it is still not significantly better, decide if you want to put mold killer on it. It may bleach everything and you end up with a pink rug and a gray spot.
  That’s scary, so you can try hydrogen peroxide, but at 3% it won’t do much.
