Patty....If you have a box spring you can drill holes in each corner, purchase legs that screw in the holds, then put mattress on top and you have a bed.
I would check around on Craigslist, local thrift stores, garage and rummage sales, etc to find a headboard the size of bed you want. There are lots of them out there for some super good prices! You can then paint it any color you'd like. Chalk paint is a good option for a wood headboard. You can then attach it to a metal bedframe which can be purchased at a local Menards, Slumberland, any furniture store, or you may even find a used one in good shape.
If you have two 3 x 3 cube shelves you can lay them on the floor side by side, Buy some twin bed slats and place a light weight mat on top. Then you have a lot of hidden storage underneath inside the cubes. (I like to hide my husband’s books that he never reads but will not throw away). I used the mats at Costco. I like a harder bed so it’s comfortable for me. Total price if you purchase it all is about $150 Better if you can find wide enough book shelves at a thrift store.
