Plant shrubbery. Build a little box- but leave space for the air to enter the unit.
You could build a simple box out of trellis and just hang it on it so if you have to access it, you can just lift it off. This way you can still have something under it (plants) and still see out the top window for safety and for natural light to come in if desired. The one on the ground is nice as you can put plants on it. The lighter the material the better. the bigger the holes/gaps the better. you could even remove the ac housing cover and paint it the same color as the cover you are making for better blending.
You can plant tall bushes to hide them that's what we did.
