Pick a room, divide it into 4 sections and start tackling it. As you get a space organized, keep it up by committing 10 to 15 minutes a day ensuring there is no re-piling of stuff. Little accomplishments leads to completed goals!
I would make three sets of boxes or three sets of clean large trash bags or clean boxes:
1.) Donate
2.) Sell
3.) Keep
Touch everything only once.
Be careful about getting too emotional about things and
remind yourself that you’ve had years to do this and
if you have not worn that piece of clothing in 2 years, or used to that coffee cup in 2 years, it’s time for it to go.
One room at a time! Once closet at a time! One dresser at a time! Make sure whatever you decide is to be thrown away actually gets thrown away and not stored in the garage!
Hi Jane - This is one of my favorite articles on cleaning, organizing and decluttering. It really breaks down the steps of the process, and even includes an interview with TV show Hoarders star Matt Paxton. Hope this helps! Hugs, Holly

Hi Jane, I fully understand how overwhelming this can be, I am in the process of getting set to do a large purge of our house and garage, one thing to remember is, it took years to accumulate, you will need time to reduce it, I plant to start in the house, sort and donate everything i can, puts items aside for a garage sale, and sell what I can through online sales. Rest frequently and take breaks when it seems too over whelming. In the house start with one room, and finish it before moving to the next, hope this helps you a bit! You got this!!
You need 3 bins, 1 for donate, 1 for keep, and 1 for trash. Start by deciding if you love it or not, if you do you keep it, if you can do without it then donate it.
Maybe this will help? https://www.huffpost.com/entry/the-best-decluttering-advice-weve-heard_n_5a0c8906e4b0b17ffce1ffb8
Start in one room, then make 3 piles, donate, keep, toss. If you use it/ love it, keep it. If not, it goes.
