Use a de-greaser solution to remove this type of grime. Regional brands vary, but the product 409 and Mean Green are two good items to use.
Remember to clean from the bottom up! The reason is that the accumulation is usually lighter on the bottom and the drips from the top will be easier to clean off from the bottom using this method. Doing it the other way will leave drip marks on the surface of your wall.
Awesome cleaner. It pretty much does everything. Plus it's cheap. Like a half gallon for $3 at the dollar store. Or paint thinner if it's really bad
TSP or Krud Kutter.
Tsp is a strong cleaner used to remove grease and debris prior to painting. So if regular cleaners aren't working, tsp should do the trick!
