My first choice would be a spray polyurethane. I have tried with a brush in the past and had so many runs in the end.
Rustoleum makes a product called Painter's Touch. It is a clear matte finish that seals and protects wood, metal, plastic and more. It is fast drying, non yellowing and uv resistant. This stuff even bonds to plastic.
