Why did my nightstand paint bubble after I used 60 grit sandpaper?

If you're talking about 60 grit sandpaper, that's pretty rough. You need to go up in the number on the grit for a smooth finish. 220 or 240 is usually considered finish-grade for wood.

I agree with Ann. If your 60 to 1 is 60 grit sandpaper, that is going to be very rough and probably air will be trapped under the paint. I also use 240 (more or less) for the final sanding on my wood projects. You also didn't state if you used primer. If you want it to look right, you should remove the paint, do a finish sanding using the higher grit sandpaper, then prime and paint. Primer will help the paint stick to the nightstand. Wishing you the best.

Did you do multiple coats of paint in one day? It's possible that some moisture was trapped in the lower layers of paint. This can cause bubbling.
