On what? If it’s a small item....soak it in coke. If it’s a large item use a rust remover compound that most hardware stores carry......I think it’s by restolium.
You can also use Naval Jelly (available at home improvement centers). Just brush it on (outdoors) and rinse it off with a hose.

There is also an inexpensive product called Spray Nine that can help remove rust. WD40 with a Brillo pad also works... I hope this helps!
