I would only use a spray paint made for metal. Remove the handles, clean them well, and maybe even lightly sand before spraying.
I use spray paint that is specifically made for metal. You can find cans of it in Walmart or any paint store. It really adheres great to the metal.
RustOleum hammered spray paint is my favorite.
