Hello Elise! You don't mention what material your wall hanging is made from. I am certain it can be cleaned but finding the proper way to clean it and to clean it safely will depend on what it is made from. Can you add a picture or a bit more information about your wall hanging?
Wash in cold wate by hand
If you are unsure about the material and colors, I'd take it to a dry cleaning specialist. Someone who does wedding gowns, etc. Also ask about their guarantee if its valuable.
Take it to the dry cleaners and see if they can do it. Spot clean if it's only a few stains if possible.
