My daughter is more organized than I am, and she used baskets and bins to organize everything on a bookcase. She had supplies for diaper changing in the upstairs and downstairs so it was easy to do. She even had a plastic bin for bathtime needs. This way you could tell at a glance if everything you needed was there. Now that my granddaughter is older, the bins and baskets help keep her toys and closet items organized. If you want to make some bins, use boxes you already have and cover them with fabric or contact paper for a nice look.
It depends on the function.
Colorful Stacking open plastic bins can have labels or even Sharpie labels on them.
They can be easily washed and used for something else down the road
I have found that using mesh laundry bags really helps keep small sized baby clothing such as pairs of socks, mittens, bibs, etc. organized and separate when being washed and dried.
