Paint will only do a trick
my dad would put dishes of vinegar around the room. (Pack a day guy)
depending why you have the smell, you may need to scrub everything.
i used hot water/salt and vinegar and scrubbed the kitchen walls - wood panelling
carpets may have to be professionally cleaned. Any fabrics in the room - if they can go
in a washer, do it. anything else, get it outside in the sun. febreeze?
if it is because of a chimney, get it cleaned by a pro, you may have a blockage or a problem with the damper. Don't mess around with it.
This is how we did it when my mom moved https://www.kotibeth.com/2015/08/how-to-get-rid-of-smoke-smell-from-house.html
A lot of cleaning.
I would open the windows when the weather is warm enough. You should also clean soft surfaces like carpeting and upholstery.
Kilz paint does a great job of getting rid of smoke and other odors.
