Hi Toye,
Start with a chain of say 5, then join up to the start to make a ring, work in a continuous ring in whatever stick you like to do with whatever colours you like until
you attain the diameter of the cylinder and then work straight up until you reach 4 inches higher than top. Fasten off. Make a chain of wool to thread through the top to tighten and tie into a bow. Hope that helps. Otherwise just make a tube long enough to tie at both ends...............
