There’s wax stripping cleaners and they work.
Bona makes a wax removal product for wood floors.
You can use a stripping product. Mineral spirits with steel wool will do it also.
First, be sure to open all your windows and turn on fans. Make a strong solution of sudsy ammonia and hot water. Wearing gloves, scrub the floor with an old broom until wax is dissolved.(Depending on how much old wax you have, there may be a lot of sludge). You may have to sweep this up using a dust pan. When all the old wax is gone, mop well and apply new finish to the floor. Do not use this on wood floors unless you are going to refinish them.
