How can I repair the side edge of kitchen cabinets before painting ?
The sides of my kitchen cabinets are made of compressed wood with a laminate over top. The edges are showing wear and possible water damage. What can I do to repair these edges before painting the cabinets?

Margaret: 1. look for source of moisture and fix that first 2. I might use a bit of wood putty -- before painting over them
I would sand the edges first. Then, I agree with the wood putty and then sand it down a little again before painting.
First clean the edge with Dawn and water, let dry completely. Sand the rough edges off, then get wood filler, or Bondo. Apply, then sand it down again to make the edges even. Prime the cabinet side, so no flashing of paint will occur. Then paint.
I agree with Dee. That is the best way to get them ready for a makeover
