Use a book shelf to divide the space. The kind that has the open cubbies where you can put baskets. They come in all shapes and sizes and would also give you extra storage and who doesn't need extra storage
Hanging? Do you know where your ceiling jousts are? That’s’ #1.
The easiest thing to do is drop down a large curtain rod and sew some curtains.
Why do you want to divide the space? Do you want your bed side of the room visible at all? Where are your heating/cooling vents in the space, as hanging drapery will affect the air flow. For what do you want to use the newly divided space? Work space, sitting and reading, crafts?
