How do I drill drainage holes into a large galvanized tub?
i have a large galvanized tub I use for plants but I need to drill some drainage holes. Do I need a special drill bit for this? Thanks!
Anything that will hold soil for the plant will work. I have used pots and pans (drilled drainage holes), collanders, even hubcaps. Just find something that catches your eye and give it a go. Choose the plant carefully so it will grow and not perish in the desired location.
I go to Good Will stores and can usually find something to put a plant in.

I have made planters from old crock pot inserts and ceramic canisters. These are good for setting a nursery pot inside. The ceramic holder will catch excess water, but it's better to water the plant outside the holder and put it back when it finishes draining. You will have to drill a hole in the bottom if you want to use it as a standard pot.
Wood and metal containers will work, but the inside should be waterproofed. Even with drainage holes these start to rot/rust. Spray or brush on a sealer to the inside of the container.
