Why wouldn’t it be ok? As long as you find a ceiling joist or use mollies, it shouldn’t fall down.
I think this would look great. My neighbor has one of the old white ones from an old grocery store hanging in her kitchen. I'd just make sure the placement isn't in the way of some sight line you like.
