Bob....You can use wired ribbon and wrap from bottom to top..may require glue in order to hold in place while wrapping. I have not done but have seen many at antique /craft stores. They change according to season! Good luck
Spray paint them in the color of your choice or make a fabric covering with elastic on the top and bottom to hold it in place.
I spent time and money recovering two of them. Then the very next week I found 2 high quality, BEAUTIFUL perfect lamp shades at a thrift store for $4.99 each!

I agree with Joan, I have updated all my lamps with new shades from Goodwill for around $5 each. They look like I got new lamps!
