How do you paint a laminate bookcase?
I have several Ikea type bookcases that have the smooth almost slick finish on them. Right now they are black and I would like to paint them more of a cherry color to go with the other pieces in the living room.

Hi Marion, I would rough them up with some fine grit sandpaper first then, after thoroughly cleaning them, prime and then paint. And then cover it with a sealant such as polycrylic. That should do it!
Perhaps some chalk paint. I’ve worked with the chalk paint from Decoart with much success.
Marion: this is easy-peasy! ...I painted by laminate kitchen cupboards. Clean! PRIME! and then two coats of a GOOD latex paint. (See photo)
