How do I paint an Ikea Billy bookcase?

What kind of paint and do I have to sand? I just want to change the colour not antique or distress it.

Sandi: I primed mine and then put on two coats of a good latex paint. (I used a semi-gloss finish... that the bookcases could take the "abuse" of taking books in and out, etc
Chalk paint can be used on all of those surfaces and no sanding, priming, or distressing needed.
