I think you could use different concrete stains to make a cool look!
There are forms that will give texture , and can be tinted for various tones you can create a 4X4 foot area at a time, and each "stone" can have a different but complementary tone. And there are imprints, like huge cookie cutters, that will create a pattern using a cement mixture and looks great as pathways.
Various concrete stains or concrete stamper works well for this.
