Hi Shelley, some pictures would help us a lot with our suggestions. If you want to salvage the trim there's always the option of wood putty if there are scuffs knicks etc.
If it is not too old (trim in older houses like ours is much wider than trim generally used now) you can match it up at a store like Home Depot. Where is the trim? What kind is it?
