Tufting a headboard is no simple project... I got in over my head with someone's "quick & easy" tutorial a few years back. We did get it done in the end, but just know that it's a 2-person job, and there will likely by sweat blood and tears involved:) Why do you want to do it without a wood backing? We used pegboard, but if I did it again, I would use this plywood, because the pegboard was almost impossible to get the staples into.
